When the iPad was announced, many people dismissed it (sight unseen) because it didn’t support “multitasking.” In the words of Inigo Montoya, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
The iPad does multitask, just not in the same way as a desktop computer. Some of the built-in apps can work in the background—for example, iPod can play music while you’re using another app, and Mail can receive and send email. However, Apple has so far not allowed third-party apps to run in the background. So, multitasking is possible, but on a limited scale.
